Alright, daytime dawgs--we've got a poll running on Snoop's remix of the OLTL theme. It's right there to your left--pick the answer that suits you best, and feel free to expand on your answer in this thread. For those who missed it, here's the video. Thanks to YouTube poster allthingslayla.
We've also got a poll asking for your reaction to OLTL's decision to give each episode its own individual title.
Lord, that felt like the Theme That Wouldn't End. And since when does
repeating the same, trite line ad nauseum qualify as hip-hop? Sounds to me
like Snoop's either knocking back too much gin and juice, or not enough.
This is a big miss because the visuals don't match and they are too
familiar with the old theme. Updated visual 'might' help but, all I can see
is Snoop doing a music video, not seeing OLTL characters.
A let down.
Really, it's like someone took some random song of Snoop's, matched it (but
not quite) w/ OLTL's current opening, then made some video of it for
YouTube. Like taking 2-Pac's "California Love" and putting it over the B&B
theme, you know?
I think for a two-day span it was great. It was contemporary and catchy.
No, it did not match the visuals, and that, along with the fact that it was
never meant to last longer than the time Snoop was on the show, is the
reason we won't be seeing it again. Plenty of other viewers I know
commented that they couldn't get it out of their heads - and this was said
in a positive light. That's pretty successful in an age when most other
shows' openings sound alike. Excepting Y&R, just about every show has long
since ditched the music and/or opening that they're best identified with.
Even for a two-day stint, however, Snoop needed to put a little more
thought into it. I'm just saying.....
Wow, sucky!!! It seemed really tacky and lifeless against the opening.
I don't hear originality or any talent in that bit. Forgetable. But at
least now there will be an entire new generation of soap fans for OLTL.
Well, I agree that it did have a bit of an ear worm quality, I was singing
it to myself for a while, but the fault is that the song is all "hook".
You can't just repeat the same hook for like 12 bars, and then give us a
smattering of a rap at the end. Felt more like a mid-show bumper than a
show opening. How bout this... remember how the '80s opening started out
as just intrumentals, then the Peabo lyrics were added later? Well, this
Snoop opening could be a *start* if they ever plan to use this theme again,
and have someone like Mary J. Blige do a fresh take on the '80s lyrics, and
layer that over Snoop's hook.
Well I for one liked a lot better than the regular one. All of ABCD soaps
have the same generic porn-film sounding opening theme. This was something
a little different, than actually had some feeling too it.
All that I have is one life to live and I wasted some watching that crappy
intro!
